Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.
2 Timothy 4:2 NIV
Back in India it’s time for the monsoon rains. But it’s a harsh summer here in the Arabian Gulf. Temperatures rising to more than 50°C. Going outdoors is not encouraged unless necessary. Without air conditioning we wouldn’t last a day!
Yet we go about our daily lives, trusting God to take care of us. Just like the air conditioning we need God’s Word to sustain our soul.
Today’s verse encourages us to be prepared at all times. Be prepared to correct, rebuke and encourage. But we need to do it patiently and carefully.
Sharing God’s word is every Christian’s duty. But it does not necessarily mean speaking out loud or even penning down your thoughts. Your daily life and walk is more important and speaks volumes about your faith.
May Christ be seen in our lives everyday as we wait for that glorious day of his return.
“The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.” Psalm 147:11
What joy it is to know that God our creator loves us and brought us into existence to have a sweet fellowship with Him. (1Cor 1:9) All of creation proves that we cannot rely on our own strength and feeble minds but only in the infinite and awesome wisdom of God. Even the psalmist understood that those whose hope is in God’s unfailing love are the delight of the Lord.
We are the “apple of his eye” (Zech 2:8)
The sheep of his pasture (Ezek 34:31)
The phrase “unfailing love” in Hebrew denotes befriending. God’s unfailing love, kindness and mercy has been revealed to us in our Lord Jesus Christ. Our love for God may grow or diminish depending on the circumstances. But his love for us is unchanging and eternal.
This verse reminds us that:
Only those who fear the Lord can know and understand Him. (Prov 9:10)
Only those who know God can put their hope and trust in Him. (Ps 33:18, Ps 125:11)
Only those who trust in God have tasted His love. (Ps 20:7)
Let’s ask God to show us how to love each other in the same manner in which he loves us – without any conditions, just as we are.
