Passing storms

Walking home on a dark stormy night was one of the scariest moments of my life. There is a stretch of road with no protection, having rice fields on both sides which I had to pass through. To top it off the street lights had stopped working. The turbulent wind and rain did not help either. My umbrella could hardly stay up in my feeble hands. As I waited for the storm to pass by under the shadow of an old tree my thoughts reminded me of how the Psalmist praised God for being his rock of refuge in Psalm 71 verses 1- 3. This old tree could hardly protect me if it got struck by lightning itself but I believe that it was my God who was watching over me that night. He was reminding me that He is in control.

Dear friend you may be caught up in the storms of life today but if you know your Savior you can rest in the cleft of the Rock who is the Lord Jesus Christ under whose shadow no storm can destroy you. And yes whatever you’re facing will pass. Let God give you the strength to hold on. This may not be the worst that you’ve faced but God is on your side.

Moses’ experience was a bit similar on Mount Sinai. When he asked God to reveal his Glory to him the Lord told him “there is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. When my Glory passes by I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back but my face must not be seen.” (Ex 33:21-23) Moses did see the glory of God but on another mountain at the Transfiguration where he shared a vision of the Lord’s Glory with Elijah and 3 of Jesus’ disciples. When we get to heaven we will look upon and worship our glorified Lord in the fullness of his Glory. Praise His Holy name forever!
